Alan Doyle

Alan Doyle, born May 17, 1969, in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, is a renowned Canadian musician and actor best known as the lead singer of the folk-rock band Great Big Sea. Formed in 1993, the band achieved significant national and international success, captivating audiences with their dynamic performances and blending folk, rock, and Celtic influences. After the band disbanded in 2013, Doyle launched a successful solo career, releasing several albums and continuing to captivate audiences with his powerful stage presence.

Doyle has performed extensively across Canada throughout his career, including numerous appearances in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. A notable recent performance took place on March 12, 2024, at Centre in the Square in Kitchener, Ontario, as part of his "Welcome Home Tour." The show featured a mix of his solo work and beloved Great Big Sea classics, highlighting his adaptability and lasting appeal.

Beyond music, Doyle is dedicated to giving back to the community. On April 30, 2023, he held a fundraising concert at Cutten Fields in Guelph, Ontario, supporting youth mental health initiatives. The event raised over $45,000 for The Grove Wellington Guelph, an organization focused on providing accessible mental health resources for young people.

As of January 2025, Doyle continues to perform with his solo band, which consists of:

  • Cory Tetford: Guitar

  • Kendall Carson: Fiddle

  • Chris Donnelly: Keyboards

  • Gordie Johnson: Bass

  • Darren Browne: Drums

This talented ensemble brings a rich, energetic sound to Doyle’s live shows, incorporating elements of folk, rock, and Celtic music.

One of my proudest achievements has been creating an environment as an independent promoter that has consistently provided Alan Doyle with a reliable and successful platform. His shows have become a guaranteed sellout in Kitchener-Waterloo, showcasing his immense popularity in the region and the lasting connection he has with his fans.
