Meghan Patrick
The first time I saw Meghan Patrick was in November 2017 at Kitchener’s Centre In The Square, where she opened for Canadian rock icon Tom Cochrane. Even as an emerging artist on the national country music scene, she carried herself like a seasoned headliner. Meghan’s grit, confidence, and unique blend of classic country storytelling with a modern edge immediately connected with the audience. Her raw, soulful voice hinted at the star she was destined to become—it felt like witnessing lightning in a bottle.
In 2018, I crossed paths with Meghan again when she returned to Kitchener as part of Old Dominion’s Meat and Candy tour at The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Known locally as The Aud, the venue was alive with big sounds and country energy, the perfect setting for Meghan’s electric performance. Her set, featuring tracks like Bow Chicka Wow Wow and Country Music Made Me Do It, had the crowd dancing, while introspective songs like Walls Come Down showcased her depth as a songwriter. She brought the same fire I’d seen before but with an energy that was sharper and even more captivating.
By early 2020, Meghan was back at The Aud, this time sharing the stage with Mitchell Tenpenny and Old Dominion. Her sound had matured, her presence even more commanding—she was no longer just opening shows; she was on her way to headlining them. It was one of the last concerts I photographed before the pandemic silenced stages worldwide. Those fleeting moments of live music became cherished memories as venues went dark and artists adapted to a new reality.
Meghan Patrick used that time to grow her already impressive catalog, leaning into the raw honesty that defines her music. Whether singing heartbreak anthems or empowering country rockers, her songs remain deeply personal and relatable. Her journey also took a personal turn as she married Mitchell Tenpenny in 2022, forming a modern country music power couple. Together, they share a passion for the road, songwriting, and a close-knit circle of talented friends like Lainey Wilson.
Now in 2024, Meghan Patrick continues to tour North America, connecting with audiences and delivering performances that are honest, powerful, and unforgettable. Her rise in the country music world has been built on hard work, authenticity, and a talent that refuses to be ignored. From opening for Tom Cochrane to headlining her own shows, Meghan’s career is a testament to perseverance and growth.
Looking back on those early performances in Kitchener, I’m reminded of how live music punctuates life, creating moments that become markers in time. Meghan Patrick’s music has become part of my own soundtrack, a reminder of the magic live performances hold. As her story continues to unfold, I’ll be there, camera in hand, capturing the moments that bring her journey—and the power of live music—to life.
