Old Dominion

In 2018, I was thrilled to see the name Old Dominion in my inbox for a concert promotion. As a devoted country music fan, I recognized the significance of their songwriting legacy and knew they were on the verge of something extraordinary. Being part of their Meat and Candy North American tour was a truly memorable experience.

Old Dominion, celebrated for their blend of modern country with pop and rock influences, has become a cornerstone of the genre. The band—Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, Geoff Sprung, and Whit Sellers—has excelled in both performance and songwriting. Before stepping into the spotlight as a band, they had already made waves by penning hits for top artists like Kenny Chesney (“Save It for a Rainy Day”), Blake Shelton (“Sangria”), The Band Perry (“Better Dig Two”), and Luke Bryan (“Goodbye Girl”), showcasing their versatility and knack for storytelling.

Their debut album, Meat and Candy, was a groundbreaking success, featuring hits like "Break Up with Him" and "Snapback." By the time I was promoting their tour, the band’s dynamic live performances and relatable lyrics had solidified their fanbase across North America.

In 2020, I had the honor of photographing Old Dominion for Sony Music Canada and Sakamoto Agency at Kitchener’s Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Witnessing their growth was incredible. The band that once played to 2,000 people had graduated to selling out arenas. Their ability to connect with audiences through their music and on-stage charisma was undeniable. The energy that night was electric, signaling that the band was only beginning to reach their potential.

Today, Old Dominion continues to innovate within the country music genre. Their latest album, Memory Lane, features the title track—a poignant and nostalgic anthem that has struck a chord with both fans and critics. The album explores themes of love, loss, and reflection, all while maintaining the band’s signature catchy hooks and polished production.

On the road, Old Dominion remains a force to be reckoned with. Their 2025 tour includes headlining performances across North America and appearances at major festivals like Stagecoach, CMA Fest, and Country Thunder. Known for their seamless blend of hits, storytelling, and audience engagement, their live shows continue to captivate fans new and old.

Beyond their touring success, the band members remain deeply involved in songwriting for other artists while honing their own craft. Their ability to balance collaborative projects with their identity as Old Dominion underscores their dedication and passion for music.

From their humble beginnings as behind-the-scenes songwriters to their rise as one of country music’s biggest acts, Old Dominion’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Being part of their story, whether through promoting their shows or capturing their performances, has been a career highlight I’ll always treasure. Their evolution from intimate venues to sold-out arenas is a testament to their immense talent, hard work, and the power of genuine connection through music.
