Rick Mercer is a celebrated Canadian comedian, author, and political satirist whose sharp wit and deep love for Canada have made him a household name. Born on October 17, 1969, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Mercer began his career with the one-man stage show Show Me the Button, I'll Push It (or Charles Lynch Must Die) in 1990, a satirical take on Canadian politics that garnered national attention.
He rose to prominence as a founding cast member of CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes (1993–2001), where his "rants" and the iconic "Talking to Americans" segment showcased his unique brand of humor and political commentary. In 2004, Mercer launched The Rick Mercer Report, a weekly CBC series blending satire, travel, and interviews, which ran for 15 seasons until 2018. The show became one of Canada's most-watched comedies, celebrated for its insightful and humorous exploration of Canadian culture and politics.
