Romeo Dallaire is a retired Canadian lieutenant general, author, and humanitarian activist, best known for his role as Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Dallaire’s efforts to intervene and his subsequent struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following the genocide have made him a prominent advocate for human rights, genocide prevention, and the treatment of PTSD among military personnel. He has written several books and continues to be actively involved in advocacy work related to conflict prevention and peacekeeping.
